Yellow May Not Be Such A Happy Color After All...

Another assignment for general illustration.  For this one, we had to read a short story, called Yellow Paint, and illustrate it.  Unfortunately, I painted it too small to add too much detail to the face.  I do however, like the contrast of the yellow paint and blue paint as well as the bats.  The loser bats handle seems strangely phallic, which was a complete accident.  If I could paint it over, I would definately do it larger and use the new clear tape I've bout to frisket off certain areas to keep it cleaner.  But hey, I'll get it right eventually!

What's In a Face?

So for my General Illustration class, we had to choose an inanimate object and make it into a face of a person or animal.  This assignment was difficult for me because I guess sometimes it is very hard for me to see outside the box (good thing I'm an artist, right?).  Anyway, after looking at countless can openers and radios and doorknobs, I finally found a giant metal cylinder in the middle of a dirt field which I'm guessing holds some type of oil.  When I saw it, I noticed that the legs that held it up looked like tusks and I saw the eyes in the rust spot.  Also, the head was very big in comparison to the body.  So my thinking was baby...and walrus...BABY WALRUS! It seemed to just jump at me out of thin air.  Anyway, I have not painted it yet, only transferred it on illustration board.  I'll be doing it in either gouache or acrylic.  I'll post the finished illustration next week.

InDesign Documents

So I haven;t posted in a rediculously long time...like 6 foot hero long, but don't worry everyone, I will be posting my work this weekend when I get my camera back!  For now, I am posting a few documents I've created using InDesign, a program I am NOT particularly fond of, but I might as well expand my knowledge of digital software in this day and age!  The first assignment I had was to create a Wanted poster.  Why not use a giant squid?  The second assignment was to create an unconventional calendar.  It's still kind of conventional, but I like the way it turned out over all. July is my favorite month (I spent the most time on it and it is my birthday month!)
